Bob Bradley, USA coach
When you play a team like Spain you have to work very hard and defend as a group. We made a special effort to try to control their midfield and not let them get comfortable. When we got the ball we knew we needed to be aggressive. We did that, and we were able to play our game, which was very important. Our centre-backs put in a tremendous effort in the defence and we put in a wonderful team effort overall. It's a big night and the players all worked hard to get here. We want to reach higher all the time and accomplish new things. Spain are a super team and it's a great feeling to have beaten them. We always felt we had a chance in this game.
Vicente del Bosque, Spain coach
The US put in a tremendous team effort and were all over the field. We were surprised by how well they played and we have to take our hats off to them. We're disappointed by the result, but we can't dwell on what happened here tonight. This is football, we faced a strong rival today and we lost the game. We tried as hard as we could, but it didn't work out for us on the night. We created a lot of chances, but the Americans played with tremendous heart.
Landon Donovan, USA forward
We just beat the best team in the world, so we're going to be very fired up no matter who we meet in the final. It's great to reach a FIFA final for the first time, but we've played a lot of finals in our region. We won't feel any new pressure in this final here. We'll be ready to go.
Jozy Altidore, USA striker
Clint Dempsey gave me a great pass for the first goal, and I'm a big boy so I was able to hold the defender off. This was not the first game we've shown our quality as a team. We try to get better all the time. We're not nervous at all about going into the the final. We're excited to be there and to have another chance to show what we can do.
Clint Dempsey, USA midfielder and Budweiser Man of the Match
This win is huge for American soccer. It's the first time we've gone to the final of a major competition. We were down and out and no on- expected us to win. Everyone back home is going to be excited about this and we're all thrilled. We realise there's another game to be played and if we meet South Africa or Brazil, it will be a tough game. We're looking forward to it.
Juan Manuel Mata, Spain midfielder
The US defended quite well and counter-attacked effectively. Most importantly, they took their chances and were far more precise in their finishing, obviously. They did well to come out and attack us early. They were prepared for this match.
Xabi Alonso, Spain midfielder
We knew that we would eventually lose a game and our winning streak would end. After going down we focused on getting ourselves back into the game and I think did everything right. Unfortunately we weren't able to get the goal and we have to tip our hats to the USA.
