In an all-American championship match, Mexico and Brazil will meet at the famous Azteca stadium on Wednesday, 4 August, to battle out the winner of the FIFA Confederations Cup Mexico 1999.

Twelve months after World Cup France 98, it is again "Hosts vs Defending Champions" in the final of a FIFA competition: Mexico beat rivals USA thanks to a Golden Goal in the afternoon heat at Azteca while Brazil crushed surprise semifinalists Saudi Arabia 8-2 in a game in which defences did not seem to exist in the first half and which was marred by a tropical downpour and a waterlogged pitch in the second half.

Saudi forward Al Otaibi and Brazil's wonderkid Ronaldinho (6 goals) are leading the list of goalscorers closely followed by Mexico's Blanco (5) and Brazilian Alex (4). One of them will almost certainly win FIFA's adidas Golden Shoe Award for the best goalscorer.
