On top of the FIFA Confederations Cup trophy, French midfielder Robert Pires swept the board by winning the adidas Golden Ball award for the best player of the competition as well as sharing the Golden Shoe for the best scorer with his team-mate Eric Carrière.

Pires took the Golden Ball by topping the standings with 249 points, well ahead of another Frenchman, Patrick Vieira, who on 184. Pires and Carrière scored two goals and two assists each which put them ahead of another four players with two goals but no assists.
