Australia pulled another surprise when they overcame World Champions France beating them 1-0 at Daegu Sports Complex on Friday. Clayton Zane's goal on the hour may very well send the Australians to the semi-finals where as France will have to win their remaining match against Mexico on Sunday to go through to the next stage.

The French created several scoring opportunities, the best one being a close-range header from captain Leboeuf but failed to capitalise on them. The Australians held on to the lead and celebrated on of the finest hours in the history of their association.

The other match of the day saw Koreans out in full force against Mexico. The Koreans showed a tremendous attacking spirit and looked fully recovered from their 0-5 loss against France. A beautifully timed header by Hwang gave the Koreans the lead before the Mexicans equalised on a free-kick. Another header, this time by Yoo, put the hosts back in contention for a semi-final spot while Mexico will be sent packing after their last group match against France.
