Santos made sure of their place in the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals with a goalless draw against Club America on Tuesday.
Holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg of their last 16 tie, Santos managed to hold off the threat of their Mexican hosts thanks to a combination of good fortune and an impressive performance from goalkeeper Rafael. Angel Reyna saw a long-distance effort palmed away by Rafael in the first half, while a header from Aquivaldo Mosquera came back off the post.
Santos hit the woodwork again four minutes after the interval through Paulo Henrique Ganso's free-kick before Rafael pulled off another fine save to keep out a header from Enrique Esqueda. Mosquera's header in the closing minutes then went over the crossbar as Santos clung on for the draw they needed to send them through to the next round.
They will face either Cruzeiro or Once Caldas in the last eight.
