Universidad de Chile clinched a last-gasp 4-3 win over ten-man Velez Sarsfield in an enthralling Copa Libertadores Group 4 clash in Buenos Aires.
Juan Antonio Pizzi's visitors struck first with Lucas Pratto scoring inside a minute, but Velez were back on level terms when Fernando Ortiz headed home before strikes by Augusto Fernandez and Emiliano Papa put the hosts 3-1 up before half-time. It all unravelled after the break for Velez, however, starting with the dismissal of Ortiz on 51 minutes.
Tomas Costa then got the Chileans' second of the night with a superb shot from outside the box 17 minutes from time, before Pratto equalised with two minutes to go. And there was still time for a late twist as Francisco Pizarro tucked the ball home in injury time following a swift counter-attack to complete the fightback.
Universidad midfielder Juan Eluchans said: "We attacked well, but they took advantage of our mistakes to score three times. We were convinced that we could tie the match and when we made it, we wanted to win. Luckily, we did it."
The win takes Universidad to the top of Group 4 with four points.
In the group's other game, Caracas ran out 2-0 winners against Union Espanola. The Venezuelan side opened the scoring from the penalty spot through Edgar Gimenez while Nelson Barahona headed home the second.
In Group 2, Gremio saw off Leon de Huanuco 2-0 at Olimpico stadium. Andre Lima opened the scoring before Borges added the second from the spot. The win sees Gremio move joint-top of their group with six points from three games.
Finally in Group 8, Liga de Quito beat Independiente 3-0 thanks to goals from Paul Ambrossi, Miler Bolanos and Patricio Urrutia.
