Argentinos Juniors clinched a 2-2 draw against Brazilian champions Fluminense in the opening game of the Copa Libertadores Group Three on Wednesday.
Two headers from forward Franco Niell helped Argentinos earn the crucial point at the Engenhao Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Niell opened the scoring before half-time by connecting with a Gustavo Oberman free-kick from the right.
However, Rafael Moura equalised 12 minutes after the interval with another header after a Carlinhos cross. Niell put Argentinos Juniors ahead once again at the 71st after a mistake by goalkeeper Cavalieri, but Moura needed two minutes more to put the score even after a cross from Mariano.
It was the first game of Group Three, with Uruguayan giants Nacional and Mexico's America the other pool contenders.
Niell was very happy with the result and his team's form, saying: "We played an intelligent game. We were looking forward to the start of the Copa Libertadores because we've prepared for this. Unfortunately, we failed to gain three points, but a draw is valuable."
