Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez has revealed his frustration after watching his side go down 2-0 to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League last night.
Two goals in five minutes from Zlatan Ibrahimovic were enough to sink the French visitors, who had impressed for an hour, striking the crossbar through Adama Coulibaly and seeing Steven Langil waste a four-on-two break with a rash shot.
"It is frustrating, of course," Fernandez told L'Equipe. "For 60 minutes, we were almost on a par with Milan. We had chances, I would say we had the better chances.
"Coulibaly's header hit the bar and Langil lacked experience, but we could have led 1-0 at the San Siro, which would have made it very difficult for Milan."
Fernandez believed his players tired, and when Ibrahimovic got his second shortly after the opener, the game was effectively over.
"When it was 1-0 to the Italians, we still had an opportunity because there was 25 minutes left, but when you concede another one so soon it is very difficult."
