Adelaide United-Gamba Osaka: Quotes

Akira Nishino, Gamba coach
I'm really proud of the players. We played an attacking style of football in the Champions League final, but tonight Adelaide managed to disrupt our passing game. Tonight's game came down to whether we could score while they were pressing forward and attempting to close us down. Both sides had chances to score in the second half. I would have liked another goal, but we kept our composure and controlled the game. We picked up a couple of injuries tonight that reduced our strike power, but we'll train hard and get ready for our next match.

Aurelio Vidmar, Adelaide coach
I thought it was a pretty good game tonight, and perhaps we deserved a better result. Our performance tonight was very different [compared with the Champions League final]. You could see that not only in the 1-0 scoreline, but in our improved showing. We pressed forward and tried to attack. Rather than just knocking long balls forward all evening, we wanted to take on Gamba in a game of football. We wanted to link some passes together and take them on. Gamba scored a great goal tonight. They attack from deep, and pose a constant threat. I thought [Takahiro] Futagawa was superb. We did all we could to try and stop him, but he showed his wonderful skills and pace tonight. We'll give everything in our play-off for fifth on Thursday, and hopefully come away with a win.
