Adelaide United experienced the zenith of their five-year existence yesterday. By completing a 3-1 aggregate victory over Bunyodkor, the Australians reached the final of the AFC Champions League and, crucially, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2008.

It was a momentous achievement for Adelaide, who emulated compatriots South Melbourne and Sydney FC in reaching the prestigious world finals.

Aurelio Vidmar's side will now prepare for next month's two-legged continental final, before turning their attention to Japan 2008, where they will line up alongside the likes of Manchester United, LDU, Pachuca and Waitakere United.

It's insane, an unbelievable achievement for the club and the boys

"," said defender Sasa Ognenovski. "Before the game we knew what was on the line, so I think it has sunk in for most of the boys that we will get to face a giant Japanese club like Gamba Osaka and then possibly come up against the likes of Manchester United in the Club World Cup. It's amazing."

Adelaide will compete at Japan 2008 as either the AFC Champions League winners, or the best non-Japanese finishers in the competition.
