Edgardo Bauza, Liga de Quito coach
I'm very proud of my players. We came to Japan to win the title, so it is obviously a disappointment that we lost in the final. My lads are as down as you'd expect after the result, but I'm happy we got this far. We took a while to get used to our opponents and to the atmosphere, and in the end we couldn't make the most of our man advantage. We really pushed for an equaliser but unfortunately we didn't manage to take our chances. I really must compliment Damian Manso, who had a great game today. I'm proud to have been part of this team. I'll take some lovely memories away from this tournament and I will be leaving the club with a real sense of satisfaction.
Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United coach
I'm obviously very pleased with our performance even if we missed a lot of chances in the first half. After the sending off, we had to be very patient and play with even more discipline to avoid letting a goal in, since that would have made life very difficult for us. We still went looking for the victory though, and thankfully we got that decisive goal. Winning this match even though we were a man down was a great team performance. It was a great tournament, and one I'll look back on fondly in the future. Winning this title will hopefully give us some extra impetus for the rest of the season. The support from the fans was fantastic and we'd really like to thank everyone for that. Wayne Rooney was named man of the match and he certainly earned it - he played really well, scored a great goal and proved what extraordinary qualities he has.
