In the second leg of the quarter-finals where the home advantage did not count, Urawa Reds dethroned Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the AFC Champions League with a 2-0 away victory over the defending title-holders in Jeonju.

Having won the first leg 2-1 at home last week, the Japanese champions needed only a draw to progress and they made it 3-1 on aggregate with a third minute strike from Tatsuya Tanaka.

The home side were reduced to 10 men after Chung Kyung-Ho was sent off in the 22nd minute. Their hopes of retaining the title were further dashed in the 66th minute, when Robson Ponte's corner was deflected into the net off the Motors' stalwart defender Choi Jin-Cheul.

In next week's semi-final, the Reds will face another South Korean side, namely, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, who defeated Al Karama 2-0 on Wednesday to win 4-1 on aggregate.

The Korean champions went into the second leg with a slender advantage to protect, but they doubled the lead through Mota's superb free kick in the ninth minute. Al Karama's Senegalese forward Senghor Koupouleni could have pulled one back midway through the first half, only to guide the twice taken penalty into the arms of Kim Yong-Dae on both occasions.

Substitute Kim Dong-Hun sealed the match in the visitors' favour with a close range header off a Kim Do-Heon corner in the 71st minute.

Away goals count
Meanwhile in Riyadh, Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Al Wahda of the United Arab Emirates, and were eliminated on away goals.

The Saudis had the upper hand with a goalless draw in Abu Dhabi last week, but were stunned by the visitors in the 18th minute, when Ismail Matar put Al Wahda in front with a cool finish. Saudi Arabia skipper Yasser Al Qahtani had a chance equalise from the spot nine minutes later, only to be denied by the left post. The home side finally drew level through Tareq El Taib in the 85th minute, but it was too little, too late to prevent the disappointing exit.

Al Wahda will travel to Esfahan next week, to face Iranian Hazfi Cup holders Sepahan, who eliminated Kawasaki Frontale on a penalties.

After the both legs ended in nail-biting goalless draws, Kawasaki and Sepahan were forced to decide the winners by spot-kicks, which was the only second time since the AFC Champions League was launched in 2002. The Iranians converted all of their five spot kicks, while Hiroyuki Taniguchi missed Frontale's fourth attempt.

The first leg of the semi-finals will be held on Wednesday 3 October, with the return leg coming in three weeks time on 24 October.
