Venancio Ramos, Uruguay coach
It was one heck of a tough match, just like our earlier games. The thing that stood out for me today was the way the team fought. It wasn't easy to get through as we were short of match practice when we arrived in Rio de Janeiro, but we're getting that with each game now. We'll sit back and enjoy this win for a little while and then we'll start thinking about Nigeria.
Nenem, Japan coach
I couldn't recognise my team out there. We didn't produce what we did in the earlier games or even at the training sessions in Japan. I think the different sand might have affected some of the new guys and although we could have done with more time to prepare, what we lacked today was a bit of fight.
Parrillo, Uruguay player
This team is full of fighters and we battled till the very last minute. We need to keep possession better, but our strong point is never knowing when we are beaten. Today we showed how much we want to stay in the competition.
Katsuhiro Yoshii, Japan player
The level is definitely higher than the last two years, when we got to the quarter-finals both times. We need to work on our physical strength, though, which is perhaps where other teams have the edge on us. On a personal level I'm sad I couldn't offer my team more.
