Amarelle produced a master-class performance to inspire Spain to a 6-1 defeat of Japan and a place in the quarter-finals. The eye-catching No10 scored three times to end the Asians' challenge.

It was not all plain sailing for Joaquin's side, and only two excellent saves from Roberto Valeiro sent them in level at the first break. But with Spain struggling to break down their opponents, Amarelle produced a moment of individual genius, overhead-kicking the ball into the back of Tomoya Ginoza's net.

It swung the pendulum in Spain's favour, and goals from Cristian Torres, Nico, Javi Alvarez and another two from Amarelle - one from a second overhead-kick - cruised them to victory.
