Senegal strolled to a 4-1 win over Iran to pile the pressure on France. Les Bleus must now beat already-qualified Uruguay in normal time to qualify for the quarter-finals. Anything less and the Lions of Teranga will join the Celeste in the last eight.
Gomis Mbengue fired Senegal in front in the first period, and goals from Pape Koukpaki and Victor Diagne sent them in at the end of the second leading 3-0. Ali Naderi's third goal of the tournament gave Iran a lifeline, but Koukpaki completed his brace three minute from time to put the game beyond their opponents' reach.
The Senegalese will now watch the ensuing game hoping for a favour from Uruguay.
