Goals from Martin and Parrillo sent Uruguay in with a two-goal lead at the first break, but a brace from Pape Koukpaki helped Senegal finish the second period at 3-3. Koukpaki completed his hat-trick to edge the Africans in front into the third, but Ricar restored parity from the restart and Martin's second thrust the South Americans into the ascendancy.
Gomis Mbengue levelled the scores once again, before Victor Diagne's close-range effort put Senegal ahead. Uruguay frantically pursued an equaliser, and after Al Seyni Ndiaye had impressively saved two Ricar strikes, Matias made it 6-6. Martin missed a penalty in extra time, but fortunately for the Celeste player his team-mates spared his blushes.
