Mexico-Japan: Quotes

Ramon Raya, Mexico coach
Japan are a very strong team, though we know we will have to be at our very best all the way through every game, no matter who our opponents are. We overcame a significant hurdle today. On the basis that Brazil beat the other three teams in the group, if the Ukrainians lose to Japan in their next game, they’ll be giving it everything against us in the final round of matches. That’s why I think this section will be decided on the final day, though that does not mean to say we will be rolling over against Brazil. You never know whether you’re going to win or lose and we’ll be giving our all in every match.

Ruy Ramos, Japan coach
It was a very even game and it’s a shame to lose when you’ve matched your opponent blow for blow. I even feel that we controlled the game, but our performance levels went down the longer the game went on. I don’t know why that was. The boys had plenty of belief but for some reason or other they weren’t able to play the way they can. We need to get our concentration back and maintain it from the kick-off to the final whistle. We’re in a tough group and every match will be tricky, but we’re going to keep on smiling till the end.
