2013 has not been an easy year for Nautico fans, as the team finished rock bottom of Serie A in the Brasileirao. And it was the same unhappy story in the Copa Sudamericana as the team were knocked out in their debut match by local rivals Sport. Still, even in such difficult times, Nautico fans were given something to remember.
Juan Manuel Olivera’s came in the second leg of the same Sudamericana tie against Sport. Seventeen minutes into the second half, with Nautico chasing the goal that would take the game to penalties, the Uruguayan pounced on a nod down from Tiago Real outside the area and lashed an unstoppable left-footed volley into the net.
Unfortunately for both the striker and the club’s fans, Nautico went on to lose on penalties and were eliminated from the competition. But Olivera’s goal will live long in the memory.
