The Brazilian maestro is back on the scene of his triumph of a little over a year ago. Kaka is still harbouring hopes of prolonging his reign for another year and being crowned FIFA World Player 2008 at the Gala at Zurich Opera House on Monday 12 January,
"I'm very pleased to be here again, it's an honour to be among the top five players in the world. To be part of this group is an indescribable emotion, it makes me really happy," the 2007 winner said before the FIFA.com cameras.
However, the AC Milan dynamo is well aware of the difficulty of holding on to his crown, given the fierce competition. "They are great players who have won Spanish titles, English titles, the UEFA Champions League, the European Championship... They've won major trophies with their clubs and with their national teams, they're excellent rivals and I'm delighted to be here with them," he said.
The attacking midfielder admits that he has not picked up as much silverware as his fellow contenders over the course of 2008, but believes his continued presence in the world's elite to be a source of great pride. "It's really pleasing to be here even though I've not had a great year with my teams. The fact that national coaches and captains have recognized my efforts is an honour and spurs me on to keep performing well," he concluded.
