Locations as diverse as Marseille, Brazil, New Zealand, Chile and Tokyo have all moved to the rhythm of a FIFA competition over the past 12 months. And be it in beach soccer, futsal or men's and women's football, nets have bulged in spectacular style throughout 2008.
After each tournament FIFA.com users have had the opportunity to vote for their favourite strike at the event. Now, as we look forward to a new year packed with equally exciting action, it is time to pick the finest goal of 2008.
To the right-hand side of this article you will find a link to the 15 finalists, where you can vote for your personal favourite from each of last year's FIFA competitions. The strikes range from the acrobatics of Portuguese beach soccer maestro Belchior on the sands of Marseille to a thunderous effort from Adelaide United's Cristiano in Yokohama.
Is it women's football that floats your boat? Then look no further than England U-17 star Isobel Cristiansen's stunning strike in Hamilton, New Zealand, or Alex Morgan's wonder effort in Santiago, in the final of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile. For pure verve and fleet-footed skill, meanwhile, how about Guatemalan futsal player Jose Gonzalez's goal against China PR in Brasilia?
To let your voice be heard, just check out our selection of the finest efforts of the year and score them according to our customary five-star rating system. The deadline for making your choices is 16 January 2009. The goal that has the highest score at that point will become the "FIFA.com Goal of the Year 2008".
