Following the two semi-finals, FIFA's Technical Study Group (TSG) has designated the MasterCard All-Star Team of the 1998 World Cup which includes 16 players. The choice of the TSG was based on a pre-selection of some 60 players made on 3 July.

The first-ever All-Star Team at a World Cup was designated in 1994 and included players such as Dunga, Hagi, Roberto Baggio and Romario.

On behalf of the All-Stars selected, MasterCard, an official FIFA sponsor, will make a total donation of USD 50,000.- to SOS Children's Villages , FIFA's official charity ever since a partnership was struck in late 1996. SOS is a non-donominational charity which was founded in 1949 with the aim of helping orphaned or abandoned children to acquire a family, a roof over their heads and a decent start in life. There are well over 300 villages in far more than 100 countries throughout the world.

The FIFA TSG is coordinated by Jürg Nepfer, Head of FIFA's Technical Department, and includes the following members: Rinus Michels (Netherlands), Gérard Houiller (France), Dr. Joszef Venglos (Slovakia), Andy Roxburgh (Scotland), Raul Maganá (El Salvador), CK Gyamfi (Ghana), Osvaldo "Cachito" Ramirez (Peru), Chief Onigbinde (Nigeria), S.
