The eight referees and eight assistant referees are put through their paces on Thursday, 22 July, in a series of fitness tests commonly known as the Cooper Test.

The tests for referees and assistants consist of two 50m sprints which must be completed in under 9 seconds and a 12 minute run during which 2400 m. must be covered. In addition, the referees have to run two 200m. sprints in under 32 seconds. A course will also be held to give the match officials specific instructions with regard to the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The first match designations for the referees will be announced by FIFA on Friday, 23 July.
