Very closely affiliated with the origins and objectives of the other project in the Balkan region, Street Football for Peace and Tolerance, this united football community is looking "...to re-define the street life..." in the Balkans by re-making street football a friendly and fair game; "...as the children can play without special rules, but base the game on self defined agreements and decisions, according to their need and imagination." The Football Friends, a streetfootballworld network member since 2005, organise an annual youth football tournament in the Bosnian city of Foca, re-uniting the children from different republics of former Yugoslavia.
Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope
Football for Hope is supporting a project that contains two interlinked elements, namely the organisation of a mini-football league in a district of Belgrade - "Kids from the hood" - and the hosting of the "Street football league - Football Friends" in the city of Foca, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Winning teams from each league will have the opportunity to attend the annual football tournament in Foca in 2008. In addition to the league activities, the participating children (from 11-14 years of age) will be engaged in educational activities and workshops focussing on various topics such as crime, drug addiction, hooliganism, fair play, cultural learning and more. The British Council is contributing to the programme by providing free English classes to the young participants. These two leagues are seen as pilot projects for the expansion of the project to other areas of Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, and ultimately in other Balkan countries.
In 2006, Football for Hope supported the coaching exchange between Football Friends and its neighbouring project Street Football for Tolerance in Macedonia. Also, in 2007 the youth and street football tournament "FOCA 07" was on the Football for Hope agenda.
