Once a year in Scotland a unique football match takes place, where the only rule is that the game must end when the first goal is scored. For the inhabitants of the Orkney Islands, it is a question of honour and glory.

On New Year’s day we took our cameras along to the town of Kirkwall, whose normal population of 6,000 swelled to 20,000 participants, all throwing caution to the wind in search of victory.

Every year the match is an eagerly-awaited spectacle, drawing visitors both from the surrounding area and from across the globe. Take a look at this edition of Video of the Week and marvel at the extraordinary events this novel take on the game produces.
