The national team representing the Republic of South Sudan played their first full international on 10 July 2012, a year after the new African state officially became independent.
In our Video of the Week feature, FIFA.com and FIFA TV look back on the historic match in the capital city Juba, captured for posterity by our cameras. South Sudan battled to a creditable 2-2 draw with neighbours Uganda, a result which made the players visibly proud and emotional.
We spoke to some of the leading personalities about the opportunities, problems and targets associated with the national team, and the unanimously-held desire to rise rapidly through the ranks. The South Sudanese have now played four matches and are still looking for their first win, but for the time being, national pride and passion count more than results.
So sit back and enjoy our fascinating Video of the Week.
