The attention of the footballing world is firmly on FIFA World Cup™ qualifying at the moment, but by way of a change, the FIFA.com and FIFA TV Video of the Week looks back at USSR's golden generation of the 1980s, headed up by the legendary Vladimir Bessonov.

The man who appeared three times at the FIFA World Cup in 1982, 1986 and 1990 recalls the highs and the lows from his time on the greatest footballing stage. Bessonov, who also featured for the former Soviet Union at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1977, represented his country in ten matches at the global showdown.

Ukrainian-born Bessonov naturally keeps fully up to speed on developments in world football, and will undoubtedly be eagerly looking forward to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which takes place in Russia. Perhaps the world will see the emergence of a new Russian golden generation in time for the tournament on home soil.
