Footballers invariably dread returning for pre-season training. Many of them go from relaxing exotic holidays, during which they’ve done little exercise and gained a few kilos, to being away from their families during intense routines aimed at fast-tracking them into tip-top condition.

Not at Parma. The Gialloblù philosophy is the have fun while they get fit. That’s why for the last few years the club from northern Italy have headed south for its pre-season training camp at the stunning Rosa Marina Resort, with the players’ families staying with them and the emphasis being on enjoyment during exercise.

And judging by the above photo of Antonio Cassano and Jaime Valdes, and the gallery to the top right, fun is exactly what Roberto Donadoni’s squad had!
