It’s a signature that, according to then Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon in 2007, “half of Europe wanted”. It’s that of left-wingback Marcelo, who, fortunately for Los Merengues, plumped to make the Bernabeu his new home when he left Fluminense six years ago. The Brazil international has thrived thereafter, and is widely regarded as one of the finest fullbacks on the planet.
And Real fans need not worry – he wasn’t penning his signature to another club in the above snap, but signing his autograph as he was presented as one of the new faces of adidas at the Bernabeu earlier this month.
”Throughout my career, I have achieved some of my dreams, and this is one too,” Marcelo said upon being bestowed with the honour. “Being next to these stars is fantastic. They have congratulated me, it is a great brand and I am happy."
