Almost exactly 19 years ago today, on 17 November 1993, Lothar Matthaus made his 104th appearance for Germany in a 2-1 victory over Brazil. The German captain overtook the previous national record of 103 caps, set by Franz Beckenbauer.
By the time Matthaus hung up his boots at the end of an illustrious career, he could look back on 150 outings in a Germany shirt as one of the most successful footballers of all time. Since then he has earned his stripes as a coach, taking charge of the Bulgarian national team among others.
In this Video of the Week, FIFA.com and FIFA TV reveal some of Matthaus' most cherished memories, reaching as far back as childhood, where football was already an important part of his life.
