For the first time in its history, Buchlern sports complex played host to the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup. Two weeks of round-the-clock construction work saw the emergence of a stadium with a total capacity of 5,000.

Despite appalling weather conditions, fans flocked to the newly built venue to witness action of the highest calibre. Not a single seat was left empty in the covered stand for the final, which boasted an impressive crowd of 2,600.

In a keenly fought match, neither Partizan Belgrade nor FC Zurich were able to break the deadlock in regular time. The match was eventually decided on penalties, with the Serbs keeping their cool and converting all five spot kicks while the Swiss missed two. Partizan Belgrade thus emerged as winners of the 69 th Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup ahead of FC Zurich and Hamburger SV, who claimed third place with a 1-0 win over Grasshoppers in the playoff.

5,500 fans descended on the beautiful forest setting of Altstetten over the two days and were royally rewarded for their journey with a programme of entertainment which included a large party tent and a variety of attractions.
