Spain were crowned UEFA European Under-21 champions this evening thanks to a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in the final at the Aarhus Stadion.

Athletic Bilbao prospect Ander Herrera rounded off a fine team move by heading home the opener in the 41st minute, the first goal the Swiss had conceded in the championships in Denmark.

Barcelona's Italy-born youngster Thiago Alcantara, son of 1994 FIFA World Cup™ winner Mazinho, put the result beyond doubt nine minutes from time, producing a perfect finish after spotting Yann Sommer off his line.

Belarus earlier secured the fourth and final European ticket to the 2012 Olympics by beating Czech Republic 1-0 in the third-place play-off in Aalborg.
