Benin have qualified for the second round of CAF qualifiers for the Men’s Olympic Tournament London 2012 after Gambia this week withdrew from the competition.

The Gambians’ withdrawal, with which was communicated to FIFA on Monday 21 March, means that Benin advance to the next stage automatically, bypassing a first round that will now involve 30 teams competing in two-legged, home and away ties over the coming weeks.

The competition’s second phase will take place between 3 and 19 June, with eight teams progressing to compete for the CAF’s three London 2012 slots in a Final Tournament provisionally scheduled for December of this year.
