Uruguay defeated Argentina 1-0 in the penultimate day of action at the CONMEBOL U-20 Championship in Peru to confirm their ticket to London 2012.
A lone strike from Matias Vecino on 64 minutes proved the difference in a tight contest. The result sees La Celeste set to participate in an Olympic Football Tournament for the first time since claiming gold at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympiad.
Conversely Argentina, winner of the last two Olympic Football Tournaments in Beijing and Athens, look set to miss out in the race for the second and final qualifying position, with Brazil holding a three-point and six-goal advantage.
Brazil will meet Uruguay in the final round on Saturday, while Argentina face Colombia. The top four teams will also qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011.
