On Friday 10 October 2008 it was agreed by representatives of FIFA, UEFA and the Polish authorities that elections for the Polish FA would take place on Thursday 30 October. Under supervision of the Independent Electoral Committee, which was established in 2007, they took place yesterday and Grzegorz Lato was duly elected as the chairman of the Poland FA.

"FIFA has taken note of the results of yesterday's elections at the Polish Football Association (PZPN) which have been held according to the Statutes of PZPN," read a FIFA Statement. "FIFA wishes the newly-elected chairman, Grzegorz Lato, and his team the best of success. Football's world governing body will work closely with PZPN for the good of the game in Poland."

The 58-year-old, who was the leading scorer at the 1974 FIFA World Cup™ and Poland's most capped player, also won a gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games and was part of the Poland squad who finished third at Spain 1982.
