From the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic, four enticing FIFA tournaments have produced some incredible goals this year. FIFA.com looks back on the ones that you, the fans, voted as the best at each tournament.
More than 260 goals were scored at the 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup but it was the competition’s first that captured the imagination of fans – and it came from a goalkeeper!
Islamic Republic of Iran’s Peyman Hosseini stunned the Bahamian crowd when, in his own half, the shot-stopper casually flicked the ball upwards before unleashing a sweet volley across the pitch that blazed into the top corner. Hosseini’s rocket surpassed 11 other incredible goals on the sand to be proclaimed the tournaments No1.
Though a losing U-20 World Cup finalist, Venezuela’s Sergio Cordova was able to take some comfort by claiming the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament at Korea Republic 2017.
In La Vinotinto’s final group stage match, which came against Mexico, Cordova displayed marvellous technique to control Adalberto Penaranda’s delivery before rounding goalkeeper Abraham Romero and expertly slotting home. Voted the tournament’s best, the forward’s low finish was chosen by football fans ahead of nine other superb shortlisted goals.
Though Mexico were trailing 3-0 with 89 minutes gone in their Confederations Cup semi-final against Germany, Marco Fabian gave El Tri fans something to cheer about by finding the net with a rocket of a shot.
Fans overwhelmingly voted for the forward’s sensational long-range strike as the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament, with Fabian's strike winning the online poll with a staggering 55 per cent of the vote. Raul Jimenez’s top corner strike came in second at Russia 2017, while Portugal’s Ricardo Quaresma’s composed finish was a close third.
India 2017 will perhaps be best remembered for the Golden Ball performances of Phil Foden and the scoring exploits of Golden Boot winner Rhian Brewster, but it was Germany’s Jann-Fiete Arp who was awarded the Goal of the Tournament.
A competition record 183 goals were scored at the U-17 World Cup and fans voted for the exciting young striker’s valiant solo effort, where he demonstrated impressive power, speed and determination, as the best of the lot. USA frontman Tim Weah’s delightful long-range strike came in second, while Sergio Gomez's thunderbolt for Spain finished third.
