AS Mont Dore retained their New Caledonia championship crown on Saturday with a round to spare.

The Noumea based side defeated AS Qanono, the winners of the Championnat des Iles, 3-1 in the penultimate round of the championship play-off contested by the top-four clubs of the regular season on Grande Terre, the main island, and the champions of the outer islands.

That left the defending champions three points ahead of Hienghene, who lost 5-1 to FC Gaitcha in their final match, and six clear of AS Thio.

Mont Dore thus claimed their fourth title, all won since 2002, while they have also been runners-up five times over the past 11 seasons.

The club are currently competing in the OFC O-League and this week’s title claim means they will again be New Caledonia’s representative in the 2012/13 edition of the tournament.
