Despite a host of teams jockeying for position atop of the Mexican and Chinese championships, the leaders are standing firm. Over in Brazil, the cream is slowly rising to the top, while in Australia things are just getting underway. FIFA.com rounds up the pick of the action from outside Europe.
Brasileirao: Adriano strikes again
Flamengo overcame Corinthians 1-0 thanks to a goal from Adriano. O Imperador's strike took him to the top the scoring chart with ten goals.
Corinthians have yet to record a victory without Ronaldo in their line-up and have now gone five games without a win, while Flamengo are now nearing the Copa Libertadores placings.
High stakes: Sao Paulo banished all memories of their stuttering start to the season with a 3-1 win over Goias, with goals from Washington, Jorge Wagner and Borges. Despite the defeat, Goias have been a revelation this term and remain in second place behind Palmeiras.
Headline-grabber: Fluminense are still struggling to find form and only earned a point against Vitoria, leaving them second-bottom with just 15 points from 18 games.
Mexican Apertura: From heaven to hell
Clausura champions Pumas have truly fallen from grace after suffering three losses in their opening three games, most recently 3-0 to joint-leaders Toluca.
Sharing the lead on maximum points are Pachuca, who registered a 2-0 away win over Atlante. The forwards at both leading clubs have been quick off the mark, with Toluca’s Nestor Calderon topping the scoring chart on four goals, one ahead of Tuzos’ Juan Carlos Cacho.
High stakes: A brace from Cruz Azul’s Emmanuel Villa in their 2-0 win over Monterrey now has the Argentinian among the season's top scorers. His partnership with Jaime Lozano helped secure a second win for Enrique Meza’s side, who move into fourth place.
Headline-grabber: Monarcas maintained their impressive early-season form, moving into third spot with a 2-1 win over San Luis after a goal from Chilean Hugo Droguett and a Fernando Salazar penalty.
American Major League Soccer: Leaders remain in command
Western Conference leaders Houston Dynamo claimed a 3-2 win over Chicago Fire, while in the Eastern Conference, Columbus Crew beat San Jose Earthquakes 3-0.
While the reigning champions had no problems against San Jose, with goals from Robbie Rogers, Adam Moffat and Venezuelan Alejandro Moreno, Houston were pegged back after leading Chicago Fire 2-0 and needed a Stuart Holden penalty to secure all three points.
High stakes: Landon Donovan once more led Los Angeles Galaxy to victory, scoring the first goal - his ninth of the season - in a 2-1 win over New England Revolution which keeps the Californians hot on the heels of the Dynamo.
Headline-grabber: Colorado Rapids were the highest scorers this week, after a comprehensive 4-0 win over Chivas USA in which US international forward Conor Casey helped himself to a hat-trick.
Chinese Super League: No surprises at the top
The battle for top spot remains as fierce as ever as all the leading teams picked up victories, with the exception of Henan Jianye, who were held to a goalless draw by Dalian Haichang. Leaders Beijing Gou’an brushed past Changsha Guinde 3-0, with a brace from Tao Wei and another from Australian Joel Griffiths.
High stakes: Runners-up Shandong Luneng remain just a point behind after they chalked up a 2-1 win at Shaanxi Szhonxin, which included a strike from Brazilian Sandro Cardoso dos Santos.
Headline-grabber: Fifth-placed Guangzhou Yiyao entered the title race after cruising to a 6-1 win over Shenzhen, and now lie four points off the pace along with Changchun Yatai and Shanghai Shenhua.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler scored his first goal for North Queensland Fury, albeit in a 3-2 defeat to Sydney FC, for whom John Aloisi netted twice.
Finally, in Mozambique, Liga Muculmana held on to first place with a slender 1-0 win at Ferroviario Beira. Desportivo Maputo took advantage of Ferroviario Maputo’s scoreless draw with Atletico Muculmano by moving into second, a point behind the leaders, after seeing off Textafrica Chimoio 1-0.
