2009 was filled with magical moments for football fans around the world. South Africa played host not only to the FIFA Confederations Cup but also the Final Draw for the next year's FIFA World Cup™, which took place in December. The year came to a close in Zurich, where the world's best men's and women's players were invited to the FIFA World Player Gala. Throughout these past 12 months, FIFA.com was at all the big events, video camera in hand.
Fans enjoy the festival of champions
The FIFA Confederations Cup was held, as is tradition, in the country that will host the next FIFA World Cup, and FIFA.com was on hand to report on the tournament that pits the champions of each continent against one another. Brazil emerged as champions, defeating USA 3-2 in a thrilling final.
Internet users were treated to highlights of the various matches as well as numerous interviews with some of the top stars who featured in the tournament. Also offering their insight were such influential figures as Ottmar Hitzfeld, Raymond Domenech, Marcel Desailly, Didier Drogba, Franz Beckenbauer and Fabio Capello.
All the excitement from every FIFA tournament
After enjoying comprehensive video reporting from South Africa 2009, fans were then treated to the best that youth football had to offer with the FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups in Egypt and Nigeria respectively.
There were more FIFA World Cups for the cameras to follow, with beach soccer in Dubai and the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi. Highlights of all the matches can still be watched on FIFA.com.
Thrilling FIFA World Cup Final Draw
At the beginning of December, the Final Draw for South Africa 2010 took place in Cape Town, and of course FIFA.com was right there, following all the action. As well as reactions from the managers of the various countries involved, there were video montages of the previous FIFA World Cup, giving fans a reminder of what is to come next June and July.

The footballing year had a fitting finale in Zurich as Lionel Messi and Marta were crowned best men's and women's players of the past 12 months respectively. FIFA.com was, of course, present at the ceremony and captured video footage of the host of superstars who were being feted in the Kongresshaus, a stone's throw away from the Home of FIFA.
