Now that the dust from UEFA EURO 2008 has settled, the European leagues are stirring. Friendlies are being played in foreign climes, the transfer merry-go-round is yet to come to a stop, and predictions of triumph and tragedy for individual players are appearing in periodicals the world over.
FIFA.com would like to know who you think will star in the 2008/09 season. Cristiano Ronaldo had the season of his life for Manchester United in 2007/08; can he offer more of the same as the Red Devils defend their English and European crowns? Will Lionel Messi, the star in an otherwise underwhelming Barcelona side last season, continue to thrive in the absence of such partners-in-crime as Ronaldinho and Deco?
Speaking of those two, can they impose themselves in their new footballing environments? Ronaldinho is yet to experience Italian football, and the Premier League will be a new and perhaps confronting experience for Deco. One player who does know the English game well is Frank Lampard: will he prove that his decision to stay in England despite interest from elsewhere was a wise one?
It is always exciting to see good players compete in major competitions for the first time. This is the first year that we will see Atletico Madrid's prolific striker Sergio 'El Kun' Aguero in the UEFA Champions League; will he reproduce his splendid domestic form on the European stage? Likewise, EURO 2008 hero Andrei Arshavin will be spearheading Zenit St. Petersburg's Champions League campaign. Will he thrill the fans again?
Let us know who you think will be the name on everyone's lips in 2008/09, remembering to keep your comments clean, respectful and in English.
