George ‘the Greek‘ Tsirta placed FIWC13 hopefuls on high alert after dominating the UK Territory Showdown and qualifying for the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2013 Grand Final in Madrid. The UK Showdown, held on 12 March at the home of English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, saw 2012 UK Champion Ty Walton, FIWC11 semi-finalist Adam Winster, Samuelson Anjorin and George Tsirta come together to play for a qualification seat at the next virtual world championship.

Tsirta was on fire throughout the UK Territory Showdown, defeating FIWC veteran Adam Winster 3-0 in the opening match before going on to beat Samuelson Anjorin 2-0 to set up a final against 2012 UK champion and two-time FIWC Grand Finalist Ty Walton. The UK Territory Showdown was live-streamed on and on the official FIFA Youtube channel, providing fans the world over with the opportunity to follow the tournament live. The FIWC caught up with the new UK champion for an exclusive interview.

FIWC: Congratulations George on making it to the Grand Final in Madrid. You had a clear run, winning all three of your games. Did you have any tactics or game plan before you went into this tournament?
George Tsirta: Leading up to the day I felt very prepared and was focused 100 per cent on my game plan. However on the day, I was nervous and unsure which tactics I was going to use in offline mode. I played some practice matches before the main event and after that I had an idea of what was going to work for the tournament games.

The FIWC13 Grand Final already has a number of strong FIWC players in the tournament line-up. Do you think you have what it takes to beat them and become the new FIWC champion?
I have a lot of experience from past accomplishments so I think my chances are good.

What made you decide to take part in the FIWC tournament?
The prize is great. The chance to meet all the famous football stars at the Ballon d’Or Gala is a dream which every football fan wants to see come to life.

Are you excited for your visit to Madrid for the FIWC13 Grand Final?
I have been to Madrid before and it really is a great place. I can't wait to be back there again in May!

How did it feel to have English Premier League commentator and official voice of EA SPORTS™ FIFA 13 Martin Tyler providing live commentary at the UK Showdown?
It was one of the most exciting times of my life when Martin Tyler was sitting next to me and commentating while I was playing Kyle Walker! I think it was very special for all of the players to have him providing commentary on the games.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker is all too familiar with the pressures of big games. Did Kyle give you any advice on how to relax and stay calm before a game?
Kyle Walker explained to me how when he was young, he was really nervous and that I should stick to my own game plan before a match. This helped me a lot in my game play and gave me the confidence to play my usual style of football.

What do you hope to achieve at this year’s tournament?
I will try to play my best so that I can get as far as possible in the tournament!

The next FIWC Territory Showdown is at the home of La Liga club Valencia on 4 April. The FIWC will be streaming the Spain Territory Showdown live! You will be able to watch the Spain Showdown on the Live Stream for Territory Showdowns page or alternatively on FIFA on Youtube.
