At the FIFA Interactive World Cup press conference held shortly before the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 ceremony, two-time FIFA Interactive World Cup champion Bruce Grannec was put on the spot when five-time FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Marta walked on stage to challenge the champion to a match of EA SPORTS™ FIFA 14. You can watch Marta take on Bruce at EA SPORTS™ FIFA 14 in the video above.

Marta takes on the Machine
“Eu treinei bastante! Vamos para o campo!” (I trained plenty. Let's go to the field) Marta told the Frenchman as she called him towards the PlayStation®3 set up for the big match in front of a packed crowd. The 2013 Ballon d’Or nominee’s confidence in issuing her challenge was backed up by some impressive virtual football skills and she immediately put The Machine under pressure in the brief exhibition match.

An enthusiastic Marta yelled at her virtual Brazilian team throughout the match as she tried to gain the advantage against Bruce's Les Bleus. Ultimately, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2007 Golden Boot winner could not break Bruce’s defence and had to resort to her lightning-quick defensive reflexes to keep Grannec from scoring. As the final seconds of the match counted down, Bruce made a last ditch effort to claim the win. "Last action!" Bruce yelled out repeatedly as he made his final attack. Marta’s experience proved crucial. The Brazilian held her nerve and shut out the virtual football champion, a task that few players have ever managed to accomplish.

"Marta played very well," Bruce told FIFA.com after the match, while standing on the red carpet and preparing to enter the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 ceremony. "She knew what she was doing. I was surprised but it was a draw but ultimately everyone walked away happy." Bruce will be looking to make history by winning a third FIFA Interactive World Cup title at the Grand Final in Rio de Janeiro from 2 to 3 July.
