In an interview with FIFA.com, FIFA Security Director Ralf Mutschke gives his insight into various topics ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.
FIFA.com: To what extent does match manipulation pose a threat to the FIFA World Cup?
Ralf Mutschke: It’s an evil in all sports including football. And because football is a worldwide sport it attracts organised crime. Every international tournament with a betting volume as high as the FIFA World Cup is generating a general risk.
What is FIFA doing to protect the game?
The group phase is more vulnerable than the final. But we have risk management in place for all games and our subsidiary Early Warning System will be monitoring the betting markets in real time.
In this interview, Ralf Mutschke also gives an insight into how manipulators approach referees and players and what FIFA is doing to combat match manipulation.
