This weekend, another flurry of derbies and top-of-the-table battles are set to help separate the champions from the challengers.
Match of the week: Real Madrid-Barcelona (Spain)
Barcelona seemed set to run away with the La Liga crown a few months ago, but Real Madrid's form under Juande Ramos has ensured there is still much to play for. With five rounds to play, Los Merengues trail Barςa by four points and the gap could be narrowed to just one this weekend. Barcelona are bruised and battered after a physical midweek encounter with Chelsea, while Real must get the job done without influential defender Pepe.
The long shot: Marseille-Toulouse (France)
It has been a dramatic week for Marseille. First there was the 2-1 win at Lille to keep them on track for their first Ligue 1 title since 1992. Then just two days later, the sudden announcement that coach Eric Gerets will leave at the end of the season. Facing Marseille this weekend are a Toulouse team flirting with UEFA Champions League qualification. The visitors only have a seven per cent chance of victory, but will be hoping the recent developments in their hosts' camp has left them unsettled.
The derbies
Genoa-Sampdoria (Italy)
Genoa's Derby Della Lanterna takes place this weekend. Sampdoria hold the lion's share of wins in the fixture in all competitions, with 30 under their belts, while Genoa have only 18 victories. That said Genoa managed to dispose of Sampdoria 1-0 in their most recent encounter on 7 December 2008. The rivalry has ended in a stalemate some 33 times and is usually played at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, the home stadium to both teams.
Orlando Pirates-Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa)
The Soweto Derby is the country's most-watched match between its best-supported teams. The Pirates are heavy favourites at home, but the emotional nature and intensity of this derby ensures that the result could easily go either way. Of their 33 encounters, Chiefs have won 12 to their rivals' nine.
The Bundesliga brawl: Hamburg-Hertha Berlin
The heat will be on when fifth-placed Hamburg face runners-up Hertha Berlin. A single point separates the two teams, who both have genuine title aspirations. Hamburg have lost only once at home this season, making them favourites at 60 per cent to win.
There may only be five left, but it's never too late to win a round in the FIFA World Leagues Predictor and, consequently, a signed FIFA World Cup™ winner's jersey.
