With only three matchdays remaining in McDonald's FIFA World Cup Predictor, ilirqorri is still holding onto the top spot. A number of challengers did however make impressive gains on their score this weekend.

portugoal nailed home 342 points to gain 112 points on the leader and move into second-place. Only 64 points now separate the two frontrunners. Third place diegojuva is 167 points off the pace, with fourth-placed Fogliarini just 25 points behind him. Fogliarini returned the highest score of the top twenty this matchday (363 points) and climbed from 20th place into fourth - his highest ranking to date.

Predictors, please note: the deadline for Matchday 15 is 14 October 2009, 00:00 (GMT). Let's take a look at some of Wednesday's important fixtures.

Uruguay-Argentina
Without a doubt, the most eagerly anticipated of Wednesday's matches. A win result for either side guarantees them a place at South Africa 2010, while a draw or loss could mean the end of their 2010 campaign. Will a well-drilled Uruguay side prove to be too much at home against an unsettled Argentina? Will there be more last minute drama? Will we see another Maradona slide?

Last FIFA World Cup qualifying meeting: Argentina 2-1 Uruguay (Buenos Aires, 11 October 2008)
FIFA World Cup qualifiers head-to-head record: Played (7), Argentina (3), Uruguay (1), Draws (3)

Chile-Ecuador
Standing on the edge of progressing, Ecuador travel to an already qualified Chile knowing that a win result could at the very least squeeze them through to the play-offs. Will Chile put up a strong fight, or will Ecuador want it more? Chile have dominated the majority of their encounters while Ecuador have only managed to come out on top on three of their 18 FIFA World Cup qualification meetings.

Last FIFA World Cup qualifying meeting: Ecuador 1-0 Chile (Quito, 12 October 2008)
FIFA World Cup qualifiers head-to-head record: Played (18), Chile (8), Ecuador (3), Draws (7)

El Salvador-Honduras
With Costa Rica away to USA, Honduras will attempt to grab the remaining direct qualification place and thus avoid a playoff with South America's number five, which could very well be either Argentina, Uruguay or Ecuador. While El Salvador may be out of the South Africa 2010 running, could they undo Honduran hopes?

Last FIFA World Cup qualifying meeting: Honduras 1-0 El Salvador (San Pedro Sula, 10 June 2009)
FIFA World Cup qualifiers head-to-head record: Played (13), Honduras (7), El Salvador (4), Draws (2)

Good luck to all predictors. Be sure to check back in on Thursday, for a predictor review of Matchday 15's matches.
