Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) inaugurated the fourth International Programme in sports management during a ceremony organised on 10 September. For more than eight months, twenty-nine students will attend the classes taught by the University’s lifelong learning centre (CENDECO).

The UNIMET/FIFA/CIES Programme has already allowed over 75 students to become familiar with fundamental concepts in sports management. Supported financially by GDI - Gerencia Deportiva Internacional - this is a fine example of the productive links that can be established between the academic world and private companies to develop education in the field of sport.

“The partnership between UNIMET and CIES has developed very favourably in the space of three years”, said Mercedes de la Oliva, Vice-Rector of the University. “Thanks to the support of GDI, it is possible to offer relevant training to managers of sports organisations in Venezuela or to all those who would like to become managers. We can only hope that this cooperation will continue for many years to come, for the good of sport in our country!”

Classes will end in the spring of 2014 after presentation by the students of their group work on issues linked to national and regional sport.
