A CIES partner since 2006, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) of Port Elizabeth (South Africa) has officially launched the registration process for the seventh edition of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Sports Management Programme to start on 23 September 2013.

The programme enjoys an excellent reputation in South Africa and neighbouring countries. It offers a perfect balancing of academic theory - designed to provide students with the new management tools they need - and practical exercises adapted to a national and regional sports context. Furthermore, over the years it has been instrumental in forging close relationships with numerous sports entities, local governments and municipalities.

Former students who participated in the various editions of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme also emphasise the strengths this course. Naleli Tsilo, student in the fifth edition, declared: "The programme helped to improve my knowledge of sports management in my position as a coordinator. It also gave me more confidence in carrying out my responsibilities... This programme offered me the opportunity to develop my capacities and inspired me to learn more about what I can do to help solve problems in the world of sports."

Another student, Godwin Nwafor, commented: "Personally, I have been able to build a wide network of people who share similar sporting ideas to me. Professionally, I have been well equipped with the technical know-how on the best way to effectively manage sporting activities."

According to Marthinus Bosse, President of the South African Wrestling Federation: "The Programme met and even exceeded my expectations. There is no doubt that I have become a better manager thanks to my newly acquired knowledge… The programme opens new horizons for students and allows them to change the mindset in which they work. The advantages are huge in terms of management of a federation or of a club."

It is worth repeating that the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme allows people from various professional and sporting horizons to familiarise themselves with modern management tools in key areas such as marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finances and event management. Adapted to regional and national realities, it also offers the opportunity to attend lectures given by international experts invited by FIFA and CIES.

Registration deadline: August 15, 2013
