Partner of CIES since 2010, the Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas (UNIMET) has officially opened the enrolment period for the first edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme of sport management. The courses will start in September 2010. It worth emphasizing that, in Venezuela, the project is financially supported by two promoters, namely the football club Deportivo Petare and the firm GZ Gerencia Deportiva Internacional CA.
This programme enables people from various professional and sporting fields to familiarise themselves with modern management tools in key areas such as marketing, sponsoring, law, management, communication, finances and event management. Adapted to regional and national realities, the programme also offers the opportunity to attend lectures given by international FIFA/CIES experts.
Furthermore, the programme enjoys an excellent reputation in the countries where CIES has signed partnership contracts, as former students confirm: “The courses enabled me to create contacts with sport managers, lawyers and journalists, which opened up new horizons. The structure of the Programme is excellent and the joint venture between FIFA, CIES and UCA ensures a high level of specialized education in sport.” (Felipe Trujillo Hormaza, Bogota, Colombia – lawyer) or “All people who consider that sport requires professionalization will make an excellent choice with this Programme. As an alumni of the 2008 edition, I can confirm the high level of the guest lecturers, the quality of the course material and, above all, the great commitment and open-mindedness of those who organize the Programme as well as those who attend it” (Paula Cánepa, Buenos Aires, - expert in sports marketing).
The International University Network created within the framework of the FIFA/CIES Programme comprises 13 universities, namely, the Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires, the Universidad Santo Tomás in Santiago de Chile, the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar (Senegal), the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth (South Africa), the University of South Africa in Pretoria, the Cairo University in Egypt, the Universidad de Costa Rica in San José, the University of the West Indies in Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago), the Bahcesehir University in Istanbul (Turkey), the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine in Kiev, the Birzeit University in Ramallah (Palestine), the University Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid (Spain) and the Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas (Venezuela).
