More than 100 participants attended the first seminar organised jointly by the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF), the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) and CIES. This event, which is the fruit of the partnership contract signed on 12 February, took place in Madrid last week.
The participants were able to learn about the current strategies to ensure an efficient management of professional sport, in particular in the fields of law and economics. In this respect, they had the opportunity to debate on topics related to the sustainability of the European clubs’ economic system, the new regulations on players’ agents, the project of new guidelines to regulate European football, the new tools to measure the impact and the profile of sports entities and athletes and their appropriateness to the sponsors’ interests, and the management of TV rights as well as the structural and managerial differences between French and Spanish football.
The conferences were given among others by Dr Enrique Arnaldo (URJC), Dr Eduardo Bandrés, former president of the Real Zaragoza, Marco Brunelli, general director of the Italian football league, Dr Miguel Cardenal Carro, director of the chair for study and research in sport law (URJC), Pape Diouf, former president of the Olympique de Marseille, Dr Pedro García del Barrio, from the University of Navarra, Dr Emilio A.García Silvero, RFEF legal director, Prof. Pierre Lanfranchi, CIES scientific coordinator, Joao Leal, legal director of the Portuguese Football Federation, Dr Francesc Pujol, from the University of Navarra, Francesco Roca, general director of the Spanish national league of football, Julio Senn, former general director of the Real Madrid and associate director at Garrigues Sport & Entertainment, as well as Dr Stefan Szymanski, from CASS Business School – City University of London.
CIES took the opportunity to present its various activities and the Programme in Sport Management which will be launched in Spain in November 2010.
