Giselle Goyenaga Calvo, former student of the FIFA/CIES Programme, has been appointed as Minister of Sports of Costa Rica. She is the first woman to hold such a position in this country.
The official announcement was made by President-elect Laura Chinchilla, who will come into office on 8 May.
The future Minister of Sports studied physical education at the Universidad de Costa Rica, an academic partner of CIES. She was also a member of the volleyball and triathlon national teams.
CIES would like to congratulate Giselle for her appointment and wishes her every success in the course of her new and important duties for Costa Rica and its youth.
