The first seminar of the FIFA/CIES International University network took place from the 14th to the 16th July 2008 at FIFA's Headquarters in Zurich.
19 participants from the nine partner universities (Universidad Católica Argentina, Universidad Santo Tomás in Chile, Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Senegal, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of South Africa, University of South Africa, Cairo University of Egypt, Bahcesehir University of Turkey, National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine, Universidad de Costa Rica) were able to meet each other and discuss the new CIES teaching modules.
They were also able to listen to several conferences (on the importance of Swiss law in international sport, ethics and sport, crisis management in sport, etc.) and discover the international university network's new web site. This latter, which will be officially "live" this autumn, will help strengthen links between the universities, the members of the teaching staff, the students and the alumni. It should also facilitate the exchange of information between countries and continents and stimulate common areas of research.
"We are delighted to be able to contribute to such an innovative project whose success proves the increasing importance of education in sport" stated Joseph S. Blatter, FIFA President.
The next seminar will take place in 2010 in South Africa.
